Overview
The ‘golden thread’ is a critical component of the latest Building Safety Act 2022, put forward as a consequence of the Grenfell disaster in 2017. It is central to the recommendations of Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of the Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
The golden thread is a process which captures digital information of a high-risk building, from design and construction, through to occupation and refurbishment. It aims to reduce the severity of a building fire and prevent potential collapse. Creation, maintenance and retention of the golden thread is required by legislation. It is to be made available to individuals responsible for the building’s fire safety.
