UK cities are rapidly expanding, around 21% of England’s domestic building stock pre-dates 1919. Developers are becoming increasingly interested in reusing, innovating, and adapting heritage sites into modern commercial office space as a sustainable way to preserve history and reinstate activity in previously established areas.
Reutilising heritage buildings as office space has many benefits, it keeps the buildings in use, can reflect a company’s culture and are seen as attractive buildings to work in.
2018 research from YouGov found that people perceived historic buildings as being built to a higher standard than modern buildings, while alternative research found that old buildings convey a sense of ‘grandeur’ and ‘longevity’ to the public (Ipsos Mori, 2010).
We will be using real world examples and case studies of listed buildings that have been transformed to understand the impact it has communities and business.
